To give customers continued peace of mind amidst a media frenzy about plastics containing Bisphenol-A, Waterlogic submitted plastics parts for Bisphenol-A testing to the internationally recognised SGS Laboratories in Shanghai.

The SGS test results confirm that no Bisphenol was detected on Waterlogic wetted plastics parts.

Much media attention has been focused on the effects of repeated exposure to Bisphenol (BPA), a chemical widely used in plastic products, upon recent release of a report by a U.S. health agency stating that BPA may be linked to health problems, including breast cancer and early puberty, as noted by Bloomberg. The National Toxicology Program noted that tested animals who ingested low doses of the chemical showed signs of altered development such as pre-cancerous tumors, urinary tract problems and either early or delayed puberty. Similar effects for humans exposure are feared.

The Canadian government has gone as far as to label BPA as a “toxic substance” under an environmental protection act. The American FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has set up a Task Force to further review the concerns about the chemical as presented in the National Toxicology Program (NTP) Draft Brief published on April 14, 2008 by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the Canadian government’s claims.

Bisphenol-A can typically be found in the plastics used in food and beverage containers, including baby bottles. According to MSN Health, “those hard plastic five-gallon jugs that many companies use to provide their employees and customers with ‘pure’ water are usually made of BPA-containing polycarbonate,” prompting the recommendation to “opt for tap water instead.”
